Covering 15 hectares of sloping vineyards, the Alain Gueneau estate is located in Sury-en-Vaux, Sancerre, and Chavignol. Having succeeded his own parents, Alain works now with his daughter Elisa. Their vineyards, planted mostly with Sauvignon Blanc and some Pinot Noir, feature primarily “terres blanches,” or calcerous clay soils, as well as some stony soils.
Winemaker: Alain Gueneau
We carry the following wines from Alain Gueneau:
The Sancerre Red Marc Forgione, 2012 is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes from the vineyards of Sury-en-Vaux. The wine is 100% destemmed, with an 8 – 10 days pre-fermentation maceration for maximal color and aroma extraction. Fermentation is temperature controlled in stainless steel, before undergoing Malo-Lactic in half-used 225l barrels, and half stainless steel. The wine is rich, elegant, and driven red fruit, wrapped in a focused sense of calcareous clay and kimmeridgian clay. This wine is a favorite of Chef Marc Forgione.
The Sancerre White is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks. Débourbage from 20 to 48 hours. After alcoholic fermentation, the wines are tapped and preserved on fine lees in order to continue to nourish the wine.
The Sancerre Rose is made from 100% Pinot Noir. The wine goes through Débourbage for 20 to 48 hours, and fermented in steel tanks. After alcoholic fermentation, the wines are tapped and preserved on fine lees in order to continue to nourish the wine.
