The stewardship of the Laird Family vineyards began nearly twenty-five years ago when many pioneer farmers passed on critical knowledge and techniques to Ken Laird, and later to son Justin, all in the spirit of kindness and helping hands. Several of these farmers, like Guillermo “Willie” Medina, were there in the beginning, and continue to play core roles within their vineyard operations. Today, Justin oversees nearly 2000 prime vineyard acres for Bayview Vineyards, the Laird’s vineyard management company. For Justin, the challenge is to successfully meet the distinct needs of each winery and winemaker, from different pruning and fertilization demands, to irrigation levels and final yield quantities. Paul Hobbs, consulting winemaker for Laird Family Estate, believes Ken and Justin are on the “leading edge” of clone trials and results.
Big Ranch Sauvignon Blanc 2012: 100% Sauvignon Blanc. 100% stainless steel. An enticing nose of candied apple, with zest of citrus, and tropical fruit notes. Juicy gooseberry flavors, with grapefruit, spearmint, and hints of pumpkin pie spices. The wine has a good balance of acidity and body, providing a very full mouthfeel, and finishing long and clean.
